    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Familiarity with ASCE 38-02 standards and Quality Levels
    • Selects and applies appropriate geophysical prospecting equipment to accurately designate complex underground utility layouts
    • Extensive experience with multi-frequency pipe and cable locators, ground penetrating radar, sondes, rodders, and other geophysical equipment
    • Basic comprehension and interpretation of utility and highway design plans and record drawings
    • Uses, obtains and interprets control point records and locates in the field
    • Operates vacuum truck and related equipment
    • Performs minor maintenance and troubleshooting operating problems on vacuum systems
    • Daily paperwork, record keeping, simple mathematics and on-site safety meetings
    • Maintenance and up-keep of vehicle, work sites, and equipment
    • Selects and implements proper maintenance of traffic signage
    • Represents and communicates on behalf of company and crew when encountering third parties in the field
    • Coordinates and performs survey activities in connection with SUE work
    • Supervises all crew activities as assigned and trains other crew members


    Required Experience - Education and Skills

    • 5-7 years experience as a SUE Technician or a (related) Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 years minimum as a SUE Field Tech II
    • Ability to obtain DOT medical card; CDL is a plus but not required
    • Field survey experience preferred
    • Familiarity with DOT SUE/Survey standards preferred
    • Prior knowledge of AutoCAD preferred, but not required
    • Basic comprehension and interpretation of utility and highway design plans, and record drawings
    • Knowledge of and use of proper geophysical equipment on various utilities
    • Knowledge of and use of various pipe/cable locators.
    • Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar preferred
    • Valid driver's license, in conjunction with successfully passing the company MVR requirements, clean background check and drug screening
    • Ability to travel up to 90% including being out of "hometown" for extended periods of time
    • Work outdoors under the full range of weather conditions typically experienced throughout all seasons of the year
    • Ability to walk for extended periods over irregular terrain while carrying and/or employing any of the full range of surface geophysical and surveying equipment. The weight of such equipment is typically less than 30 lbs.
    • Pick up and carry equipment, tools or supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. for short distances and assist others to do the same. This includes the loading and unloading of such items into and out of vehicles, storage areas, etc.
    • Remove and replace manhole lids and covers weighing up 50 lbs., with assistance
    • Able to receive verbal and written instructions with a professional demeanor
    • Willing to be a part of a team with a “can-do” attitude
    • The ability to provide proof of an established work history
