Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates survey instruments/equipment required to perform surveys on job sites as directed by the Party Chief.
  • Responsible for the operation, checking and basic field adjustments on transits, total stations, robotic total stations, data collectors, levels, compass, tribrachs, tripods, and GPS equipment (RTK, RTN, Static, etc…).
  • Must be knowledgeable of the principles of performing basic surveys: leveling, traversing, triangulation, trilateration, boundary surveys, construction surveys, topographic surveys, and photo control surveys.
  • Coordinate field work for a variety of standard types of surveys under the supervision of a Party Chief.
  • Interpret control point records and data sheets, as well as locate points in the field.
  • Basic plan reading and preparation (i.e., site plans, boundary plans, highway plans, profile and cross sections, horizontal and vertical curves, pipeline plans, foundation plans, and developing existing and finished contours). Must have a basic knowledge of the terminology and principles of conventional drafting.
  • Responsible for ensuring the truck is loaded and all supplies necessary for completion of the day’s work are fully stocked.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience - Education and Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Courses in mathematics and surveying that are required in order to perform the above responsibilities
  • Ability to walk 5 miles a day and/or stand for up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
  • Possession of a valid, current driver’s license
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
